HII-Technical Solutions Division (TSD) is looking to hire a Sr Software Engineer supporting their Annapolis Junction, MD office or with option to work at the LevelUP Software Factory in San Antonio, TX.


As a Senior Software Engineer (SWE) you will design, plan, develop, integrate, automate, document, and maintain software components and services for a variety of customers and applications. The initial position will support the development of the Unified Platform Cybersecurity Tool suite.

What you will do
  • Apply your subject matter expertise to analysis, assessment, design, development, integration, installation, automation, documentation, and implementation of software solutions
  • Evaluate and select Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and Free Open Source Software (FOSS) products and integrate them with COTS, FOSS, and proprietary components
  • Work with multiple cross-functional teams to resolve problems, which requires expert knowledge and knowledge of other integrated technologies
  • Provide architectural guidance and oversight into the integration of software components and services
  • Apply subject matter knowledge to areas including: interoperability, monitoring, performance testing/optimization, and application security
  • Provide technical direction for the development, engineering, interfacing, integration, and testing of complex hardware/software systems
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams
  • Design, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems
  • Research and collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
  • Determines computer user needs; analyze system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls
  • Ensure that software standards are met.
What you must have:
  • 9 years of experiencewith a Bachelors degree or 13 years with a HS diploma
  • At least eight (8) years of experience within the last ten (10) years designing, implementing, integrating, documenting, automating, monitoring, and/or managing software components, services, and systems of various sizes (e.g., small, large)
  • At least six (6) years of experience within the last eight (8) years developing software for Linux-based environments
  • 4+ years of experience with object-oriented design and object-oriented programming in Java
  • Experience managing source code and builds
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Experience creating documentation, workflows, and diagrams
  • Due to the nature of the work we do at HII, all employees must be U.S. Citizens and must be able to obtain a security clearance

Bonus points for...
  • Familiarity with agile or DevSecOps methodologies and tools
  • DevOps or DevSecOps experience a strong plus
  • Experience with the software development life cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, design, implementation, and testing
  • A strong understanding of Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and CentOS)
  • Experience with JavaScript (Angular preferred)
  • An understanding of containers and virtualization technologies, standards, best practices, and implementations
  • Experience container orchestration software (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, etc.)
  • General knowledge of Cloud Management
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • IDAM Experience highly desired
  • Familiarity or Experience with KeyCloak and Apache
  • Familiarity or Experience with Ansible and/or Saltstack
  • Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience designing, implementing, deploying, and managing web applications and supporting services
  • Experience with big data systems and analytic systems is a plus
  • Experience applying information assurance and cybersecurity principles to applications and services is a plus
  • CompTIA Security+ Certification
Physical Requirements
Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements Software Engineer family.
