Job Description
The Senior Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing the operational management and effective daily leadership and administration of the engineering team. This role requires ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective operation of machinery and systems in a cost-effective manner. The Senior Chief Engineer must maintain the highest level of professionalism, meet the clients' needs, and strive for 100% uptime throughout the engineering team. In addition, this position is responsible for protecting and improving the value of the client's assets and ensuring that building engineering systems continue to perform their intended functions. The Senior Chief Engineer will implement and manage the reliability-based maintenance function, execute equipment inspection and monitoring programs, define and implement maintenance best practices, and continuously evaluate current maintenance, operations, and reliability methods to enhance effectiveness and maximize performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Building Management:
Monitor the operation and maintenance of refrigeration, water cooling, air conditioning equipment, boilers, heating, ventilating, hot water equipment, pumps, valves, piping, and filters.

Review logs to ensure proper equipment operation and report any problems or malfunctions.

Perform preventive tasks and oversee repairs and planned maintenance (P.M.) of HVAC systems.

Maintain an adequate inventory of tools and supplies for the building.

Oversee contractors working within the building and ensure their compliance with building regulations.


Safety:
Identify safety hazards within the building and implement remediation measures.

Develop and administer a comprehensive safety training program.

Ensure compliance with regulatory laws and guidelines related to building infrastructure operation.

Maintain documentation for infrastructure and regulatory compliance.


Leadership:
Supervise and manage engineers and maintenance staff, including hiring, training, and personal development.

Ensure understanding and adherence to the Critical Facility Work Authorization (CFWA) process among building staff, engineers, tenants, and contractors.


Training:
Provide training and support to expand the capabilities of the operations staff.

Demonstrate proper tool use and care, deliver hands-on instruction in maintenance, safety, and troubleshooting procedures.

Recommend relevant engineering courses and instill professionalism in staff.


Qualifications:

Required:
Minimum 7 years of facility-related work experience, including customer service, leadership, and supervisory experience.

Managerial experience.

Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance processes.

Understanding of construction planning and execution.

Familiarity with HVAC, fluid handling/pumping, fluid filtering, mechanical systems, welding, and electrical systems engineering and operation.

Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service.


Preferred:
Associate's Degree in an Engineering discipline.

Universal Technician for CFCs (or within 90 days of employment).

Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent.
