Critical Facility Chief Engineer

Job Description
We seek a highly motivated Data Center Chief Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with the Facility Manager to oversee the operations of the engineering department. You will be responsible for providing technical and administrative support, preplanning electrical and mechanical preventive maintenance, and supervising and directing maintenance personnel in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical equipment and systems.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Supervising and directing the maintenance staff on shift, monitoring their performance, and ensuring efficient completion of service requests.
Providing training and supervision to enhance the capabilities of the operations staff, including instruction in maintenance, safety, and troubleshooting procedures.
Implementing and overseeing the preventative maintenance program, scheduling maintenance tasks with minimal disruption to building services, and ensuring inventory maintenance.
Managing contracted maintenance work, ensuring timely completion and fulfillment of warranty obligations.
Monitoring and conducting preventive maintenance on all building systems, including fire/life safety, HVAC, electrical, and emergency backup systems.
Complying with hazardous materials storage and disposal policies to maintain a clean and safe workplace.
Managed inventory of tools and supplies, submitted purchase order requests, and developed sources for stock materials.
Overseeing activities of contractors working within the building and maintaining records of building rounds and readings.
Training contractors on critical functions and work to be performed, including incident response protocols.
Participating in incident investigations and understanding emergency escalation procedures.
Ensuring all staff and contractors are familiar with the Critical Facility Work Authorization process.
Minimum Requirements:
Hands-on experience working in a data center or critical facility, including UPS systems, emergency generators, and switchgear, is preferred.
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
5+ years of related work experience, including supervisory experience.
Working knowledge of computer applications, including Word and Excel.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
PHYSICAL WORK ABILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to walk, climb, bend, kneel, lift, stoop, and work overhead.
Able to lift a minimum of 80 lbs.
Comfortable navigating large campuses and accessing equipment on rooftops.
Capable of working from heights and using ladders up to 30 ft.
Physically able to climb a ladder with a 300-lb weight limit while carrying a tool bag weighing approximately 20 lbs.
