Job Summary:

The CAT Support Field Technician provides face-to-face customer service located at an off-site location and is responsible for various forms of complex repairs on
heavy equipment. Responsibility includes, but is not limited to; welding, machining, line boring, MIG welding, air arcing and repairs related to undercarriage and undercarriage components. The CAT Support Technician 1 is also responsible for communicating repair options to customers, ordering correct parts and completing the repair in an efficient, timely manner in order to meet department goals and organizational objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards

  • Performs complex troubleshooting, diagnoses of equipment malfunctions, and failure analysis
  • Reads blueprints to understand the engineering design necessary for the fabrication of parts, including material specifications, grain direction, GD&T standards and
    practices, dimensions, and interference/clearance conditions
  • Performs various repairs related to undercarriage and undercarriage components to include, but not limited to; welding, machining, line boring, MIG welding and Air arcing on CAT and non-CAT equipment
  • Removes and installs parts, disassembles and assembles components to CAT specifications
  • Removes and replaces machine components utilizing required technical data and procedures in order to repair equipment to required standards
  • Advises customer of problem areas and recommends repair solutions, gains customer approval, and order appropriate parts in order to repair equipment in a
    timely manner.
  • Tests, makes adjustments, and verifies proper operation of all repairs and adjustments
  • Prepares and completes all job-related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records; in addition, accesses databases required to complete job
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
  • Maintains service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections, and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicles in a good, clean, and working order
  • Communicate job progress to supervisor and customer as needed
  • Completes assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat rate time and re-work standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers' needs
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may be relied upon to act as a mentor to lower-level Technicians
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of safe work procedures and practices
  • Advanced knowledge of CAT models/machines and safe operation procedures, maintenance practices, and troubleshooting of hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Advanced knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Advanced knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electrical
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and knowledge of machine electronic systems
  • Exceptional skills in customer service
  • Ability to read shop drawings and blueprints
  • Able to use calipers, micrometers and tape measure
  • Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Planning and organizing skills to prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources
  • Operation and control skills of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to operate a crane and forklift, and obtain required certifications/licenses
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast-paced, time-constraining circumstances
  • General mathematical skills include basic adding, subtracting, multiplication, and division
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • Ability to understand technical manuals, software specifications, hardware principles of operations, and systems software operations
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • Organizational ability and confidence to work independently

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional technical education in related field preferred
  • More than eight years of experience required; ten or more years preferred

License:

  • Must have a CDL Class B

Travel:

  • Extensive travel required with the possibility of an overnight stays
