General Notes

The Videographer will support the Division of Campus and Community Engagement (DCCE) communications team by leading video projects for multiple online channels and capturing still photography for use in marketing materials throughout the year. This role is for a great visual storyteller who knows the latest trends in digital storytelling and has a passion for belonging and access efforts in higher education and in the community. The goal is to create compelling video storytelling that captures the DCCE's mission to educate, connect and engage various communities and individuals the university serves. This position can be based anywhere in the city of Austin with occasional travel to community events.

Purpose

The DCCE is hiring a videographer with occasional reporting assignments. We are looking for an experienced videographer who has a talent for communicating complex ideas and sensitive subject matter in terms our audiences can relate to. The ideal candidate is open to learning new skills, as we are willing to provide training and opportunities to learn.

Responsibilities

Video production

  • Capture videos (on and off campus) for various projects
  • Interview subjects for quick-turnaround pre- and post-event coverage
  • Interview subjects for larger-scale projects, such as fundraisers and overviews
  • Use software programs to produce videos with high-level sound quality, color correction and burned-in captions
  • Edit and produce videos and format files for various platforms (i.e. YouTube, social media )
  • Creates, coordinates, writes and produces video scripts
  • Follow the approval process protocol and work on requested edits as needed

Takes photos and reels at events for print and digital storytelling

  • Attend campus and off-campus events to take photos
  • Send photos and/or reels to the social media manager in real-time
  • Curate photos and upload to UT Box for the designer to format

Multimedia storytelling planning and development

  • Study trends in social media communications and pitches ideas for engaging audiences
  • Develop creative shooting and storytelling strategies
  • Ensure that all video content meets DDCE brand standards, accuracy, fairness and balance
  • Monitor belonging and access efforts on campus and pitch ideas for video storytelling projects
  • Actively participate in weekly production meetings on Zoom

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
  • Experience with social media communications
  • 3+ years of professional experience producing content for a news organization
  • Strong verbal, writing, editing and online production skills
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work well under pressure
  • Solid news judgment.
  • Familiarity with content management systems and publishing content on different digital platforms, including website and social media
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience producing content for a news outlet.
  • Ability to create high-quality motion graphics
  • Knowledge of AP style
  • Experience in a TV newsroom.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere and Audition).

Salary Range

$60,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift

Monday-Friday, starting at 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work hours may vary due to story assignments. Ability to work remotely, with travel to campus and community events.
