Purpose of position:

The Senior Associate, Reliability Improvement Engineer will support the operational fleet with performance and reliability engineering as well as support the development and construction team with wind farm optimization, wind turbine selection and quality assurance.

Responsibilities:

  • Reliability engineering: ensure that existing faults and failures are analyzed and problems well defined for solution design
  • Initiate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of failures in solar and battery storage farms
  • Performance engineering: analyze the current portfolio together with the data analysts and determine upgrades and improvements to the wind turbines to increase output
  • Prepare high-quality reporting of analysis results in tools such as Tableau and PowerBI
  • Troubleshooting support: support operations where needed in immediate issues on components such as inverters, transformers and IGBTs (Integrated Gate Bridge Transistors).
  • Support solar and battery storage technical due diligence for new projects
  • Ensure the highest level of health and safety practices on the assigned solar and battery farm(s). This includes wearing essential safety equipment, including a personal fall arrest system, as well as identifying potential hazards on the job.
  • Adherence to the company's values and behaviors as defined by the RWE behaviors.
  • Assure that all on site related engineering activities are performed in a safe manner consistent with policies and procedures established for the business and for the wind farms

Requirements:

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience with technical work and/or engineering support in solar and/or battery storage
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, solar energy, electrical or aerospace Engineering

Work Environment:

  • Primarily an office environment; Occasional visits to a field environment are required. This will include hazardous conditions such as working at height up to 300', working in confined spaces, exposure to bloodborne pathogens, exposure to energized electrical and rotating equipment, and working in extreme hot and cold conditions
  • Must pass a fit-for-duty medical examination upon hiring and every 2 years thereafter and maintain a body weight of 270 lbs or less. The work also requires flexibility and full range of movement in confined spaces
  • The work may require providing first aid/CPR; must maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • The work will require irregular work hours depending upon the required response of site operations to address the unpredictable needs of the wind farm

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to maintain a personal weight limitation of 270 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit, walk or stand for long duration of time.
  • Must be able to climb wind towers on a daily basis. During this task, employee must be able to open/close hatch doors and identify potential safety hazards.
  • Must have the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Must be able to transfer fifty (50) pounds from a thirty-five inch platform to the floor.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for up to fifteen (15) feet.
  • Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds from ground to brow height.
  • Must be able to lift and transfer up to fifty (50) pounds to a thirty-five (35) inch platform.
  • Must be able to lift and carry twenty-five (25) pounds with one hand up to fifteen (15) feet.
  • Must be able to crouch, kneel, or kneel for up to five (5) minutes at a time to perform maintenance tasks in low areas.
  • Must be able to perform fine motor tasks, such as screwing or unscrewing nuts and bolts, while reaching around and over objects.
  • Must be able to balance to: (1) work in closed and small swaying areas on top of and within wind towers, and (2) walk across small surface areas to access areas within wind turbines.
  • Must be able to military, belly, or back crawl up to fifteen (15) feet to access the nose cone area of wind turbines.
  • Must be able to step or climb up onto platform at a height of thirty-five (35) inches, with or without support.
