Job Description:

Silicon Carbide Power Team

You will become a part of the burgeoning Silicon Carbide Power Team at Microchip. Our purpose is to make mainstream the harvest, transmission, distribution, and consumption of sustainable energy by delivering total systems solutions based on Silicon Carbide Power products.

Together we will accomplish this by focusing on high value, high quality products, total system solutions, software and services to enable our customers to unleash the full capability of Silicon Carbide power devices and select Microchip as their long-term development partner.

Microchip is seeking a Technical Staff Engineer-Applications to join the Silicon Carbide Business Unit (BU) and be a key contributor to the SiC Power Team in our Austin, TX office. This role will support our SiC power products, which include SiC die, discrete, module and gate driver solutions. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the development of power converters using SiC power devices including evaluation kits, technology demonstrators, reference designs, and validate power converter design through hardware testing. Additionally, this position will create application supporting materials to support SiC application and collaborate with field application team to provide application support to customers. This position will also manage the collaboration with universities and design houses for application supporting material development. In this role, you will be working with a global team of experts on power devices and systems delivering industry-leading silicon carbide power products and system solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Work independently on power converter design for SiC power devices and digital gate drivers, including but not limited to:

    • Evaluation kit hardware.

    • Technology demonstration power converter.

    • Application specified reference design.

  • Validate power converter design through hardware testing and creation of test reports.

  • Develop software coding for power converter implementation using DSPs and FPGAs.

  • Manage projects with design house and university research teams for the development of reference design and technology demonstration hardware.

  • Create application supporting materials including application notes, white papers, and technical articles.

  • Collaborate with field application team to provide application support to customers.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, Master's preferred.

  • 12.5+ years of power converter design and testing experience.

  • Knowledge of Silicon Carbide (SiC) power devices, power electronics

  • Proficient in power, electrical testing, circuit debugging, etc.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Work collaboratively in a team and also be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Word/Excel for reporting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with power converter design and testing (Silicon Carbide power device based).

  • Experience with simulation, design, and implementation of power electronics converters.

  • Experience with magnetic components design and optimization.

  • Experience with composing technical reports and scholar articles.

  • Experience with PIC/ DSP/ FPGA programing.
