Work Shift:

Monday - Friday (1:00 pm to 10:00 PM)

This position may require flexible work hours to respond to emerging situations, including occasional extended work hours or be on-call.

Purpose:

Overall responsibility of this position is to provide skilled services in a variety of trade areas for the maintenance, repair, and operation of the William C. Powers (WCP) Student Activity Center, a University Unions facility.

Responsibilities include:
  • Repair and evaluate the need for repairs using knowledge of commercial building construction, electrical, plumbing and interior building construction; including, but not limited to: reading blueprints, circuit breakers, ballasts, pump motors, floor drains, water mains, steam and chillwater pipes, sump pumps, wall and reparation, carpentry, door hanging and framing, floor and wall tile, ceiling grid, painting, HVAC maintenance and programming, tracking inventory and recycling materials.

  • Follow Fire, Environmental and HAZMAT safety codes and regulations; including fire alarms, exhaust vents, MSDS sheets, grease traps, and warning labels, tags and signs.

  • Being aware of and following the compliance regulations and codes for Federal, State and University requirements.

  • Perform job responsibilities in a safe and secure manner, ensuring the safety of students, staff and patrons regarding tools, equipment and work areas.

  • Assist in the inventory tracking of tools and equipment.

  • Securing maintenance of tools and equipment, ensuring their life expectancy.

  • Driving a University or personal vehicle for errands or transport between the WCP Student Activity Center and the Texas Union.

  • Use a personal computer for email, timekeeping, service work orders and other related business needs.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Five years of experience in maintenance and repair in a crafts trade or facilities maintenance. The five years of experience is to include any combination of journey level experience in electrical, plumbing or carpentry. Experience in commercial building construction, particularly with building materials and blueprints. Experience in interior building construction and repair. Experience with safety and handling of heavy and light, indoor and outdoor tools and equipment. Experience with environmental and HAZMAT safety. Experience using a person computer. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate

Preferred Qualifications

Compliance knowledge of Federal, State and University regulations and codes. Working in a higher education environment. Experience and knowledge of Fire and Safety codes and regulations. Familiar with current residential and commercial building codes. Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks exercising appropriate judgment. Demonstrated ability to follow through with tasks and projects on time and to completion with minimal supervision. Ability to work under pressure to meet deadline and accomplish details of several projects concurrently. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. LEED certified. Experience working in green or environmentally friendly facility. Experience working cooperatively in a team environment. Ability to speak Spanish. Experience with Siemens HVAC Software and eMaint-Maintenance Software. Familiar with safe and proficient use of Genie Scissor lift.

Salary Range

$38,480 - $42,300 Annually (Depending on Qualifications and Certification)
