Job Description
Wanted: A Techno-Padawan Ready to Remediate! (Also known as a Professional Services: Incident Response Intern) EMBARK ON YOUR JOURNEY

We invite you to join Entara and start your journey as a Professional Services: Incident Response Intern. In the face of ever-increasing, complex threats and dynamic security events, Entara has embarked on a journey to build the world's first eXtended Service Provider (XSP). We have earned our stripes on the frontlines, rebuilding organizations in the aftermath of ransomware attacks and we maintain partnerships that require our team to flex into immediate, high-priority security remediation projects. Project work ranges from remote delivery across varying time zones "dusk to dawn" to jumping on a plane, travelling the continental US to provide onsite support. These projects are essentially a rescue operation: taking environments in the aftermath of a security breach and restoring them to full operations.

The incident response (IR) work we perform requires extreme care and precision to make sure that we truly cross every t and dot every i, resulting in our client's ability to get back to work. Our Incident Response Interns will work alongside our dedicated engineers within this focus area in Professional Services and will be tasked with an outline of project deliverables, running through a checklist of requirements, and working collectively on issues that arise mid-completion. The work our IR team performs ranges from reimaging servers, to restoring backups, to rebuilding or redesigning a VMWare environment. Interns will receive exposure not only to the engineering tasks involved in recovery, but will have the additional opportunity to work within the project management aspect of this team-gaining a full-circle perspective on the type of communication and client management required for a successful recovery.

We created this unique internship experience because we are seeking the best and brightest individuals to join our team. Whether you're with us for a season or we find a long-term match with each other, an Entara internship will prepare you for a lifelong, successful IT career in a way that any other internship just simply cannot match. Are you the ready to remediate, techno-padawan we've been looking for?

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

(Otherwise known as the fine print, the list of job tasks and responsibilities.)

Professional Services Incident Response Interns are exposed to the entirety of Entara's Professional Services landscape. Interns are primarily responsible for assisting with incident response recovery, script creation and automation. Interns will also have the chance to assist with related project management tasks and may have the opportunity to shadow and flex into our service teams within Security Integration and Managed Services. Resident Interns are exposed to a variety of environments in the mid-size marketplace and gain hands-on, trial by fire experiences working alongside both our Engineers and Project Managers within their assigned project sprints. IR Interns will directly report to our Director of Professional Services during their initial term with Entara.

Given we are a remote company, our internship is primarily remote- allowing us to interface with budding technologists across the United States. However, project opportunities may arise in which an intern could be requested to travel and perform onsite recovery work, so the flexibility to travel is considered ideal for role consideration.

      • Restore and rebuild ESX and Hyper-V hosts, domain controller, etc.
      • Deploy and configure security-enhancing solutions for systems and applications (including MFA and endpoint protection).
WHO YOU ARE: REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • You're a knowledge seeker. You are ideally working towards completion of your Bachelor's degree in a technology centric major OR you are an active at-home technical tinker-er seeking to turn pro. Regardless of how you caught the IT bug, you are seeking an opportunity to put your current knowledge into action and gain valuable exposure to a corporate IT environment!
  • You are ready to be an effective remote worker and have a dedicated, private space for a home office and already have in place a reliable, private internet connection with at least 50MBPS bandwidth. Public wifi and shared common spaces do not meet these standards
  • Entara will supply you with the tools and hardware to complete your tasks remotely. This includes a standard setup: laptop, dual monitors, dock, headset, webcam, and optional keyboard and mouse. Interns will return this equipment to Entara at the conclusion of their internship.
  • You are available for a remote full-time internship opportunity spanning 10-12 weeks in Summer 2023 with standard working hours being 8am-5pm CST Monday-Friday.

Anticipated Starting Date: Monday, June 5th 2023.

  • You are fascinated by the technical industry and want to continue to gain exposure to (and be a valuable part of) the internal operations of a security-driven eXtended Service Provider (XSP).
  • You have a desire to become the grease monkey of the IT environment and are currently considered your family's "techie-troubleshooter". You have a solid understanding of desktop hardware and operating systems, and can use hardware diagnostic tools to address operating systems issues. You have a solid understanding of standard employee productivity suites-Microsoft Office/Outlook, and you have basic understanding of mobile device configurations and support.
  • You have foundational exposure to and more ideally, lab experience working with servers and networking equipment in both a virtual and physical capacity.
  • At the end of a long day, you pride yourself on the influence you had on another person's day. It's not just about the technical feat, but about being that go-person that others want to have solve their issue time and time again.
WHO YOU ARE: PERSONALITY-WISE
  • Right Brain, Left Brain OS: You're a little bit of a fanatic when it comes to correctly implementing known solutions, but you've got a streak of Potter-ish ingenuity when something weird comes along. You break problems down, using a logical process of elimination to solve them. But you pay attention to intuitive inspiration.
  • Persnickety: You follow complex, detailed instructions for complex, detailed tasks. Again, you avoid even thinking, "That's good enough."
  • Bilingual in English and Tech-speak. You understand what the problem is, even when the person calling is 404, technically speaking. While they're talking, you're thinking technologically, assessing and solving their issue, then translating the solution into English before communicating it to the end-user. In other words, you speak the mainstream language recognized by Muggles.
  • Resilience of a rubber band: You don't snap when stretched to your limits by panicked, frustrated and/or irate users who are operating on their last nerve. You have the temperament of a Zen monk on a Rocky Mountain high.
  • Appetite for learning: You're always reaching for the next apple on the knowledge tree, as well as the last piece of pizza in the box. Learning is its own reward-but it also helps when you have your eye on a job in the next tier. You like working in a managed-knowledge organization that promotes from within as you gain experience.
  • Persistent, but not stubborn: You'll be damned if you're going to give up on a problem you know you can solve, but you recognize when it's time to escalate to a higher tier. Next time, you'll have the solution at hand.
  • You play fair. You live by all those early childhood lessons about treating people with respect, keeping your commitments, listening to the views of others, resolving conflict through negotiation, communicating clearly, and contributing to a positive team effort. You place team success above your individual interests.
